Snowboard Protection

XionPG Bermuda Xtreme Pro D3ONow this pair of pants would probably be the most expensive pair of protection pants I would ever consider. Every single protection part is a D3O piece, which is probably why it cost so much. In terms of protection i would be definitely give it a 5. On top of that the excellent fabric helps make it snug and is a very low profile. XionPG is well known marketing brand that is used in Hollywood, especially by the stunt people in movies to help protect them during fight scenes, car crashes etc.

If you are looking for one whole pants with all the protection you want for your lower body, this would be the one with the best protection. Next in line would be the Demon FlexForce X D30 Padded Pants V2. So if money is not an issue, this would be really good as you only have one piece compared to my favourite combo of a pants and a separate knee guard. The only place missing is the Ischium bone area hence I give it a 4.5 for protection.

XionPG Bermuda Xtreme Pro D3O Back

Demon FlexForce X D3O Padded Shorts V2 FrontNow this is the next pair of protection shorts that I'm looking for my next upgrade. The reason for this is because it covers all the areas that my Favourite POC Ski Shorts cover plus two additional area, the Ischium bone,(I.e. Butt) and it uses a D3O piece that covers the lower back to tailbone. In addition they surround the piece with their thermoform Padded material to help absorb even more.

For version 2, they upgraded the fabric to elastic, sweat wicking and breathable mesh. So it will fit snugly on TOP of your thermal compression tights.

I was pretty impressed with their video description of the product that you can check it out here. Definitely giving it a 5 for protection.

Of course with the higher protection, there may be some sacrifice to it being too fat, so I'll just give it a 4.5 till I can tell you after I purchase it.

Price wise, I think it is pretty reasonable for it being under US$100 and still offer so much protection as well as having a D3O piece. It is even cheaper than my POC, so definitely give it a 5.

Overall I think this would be the best value and good quality product for how it can do to save you on the slopes.

POC Hip VPD 2.0 Ski Shorts FrontI have been using these pair of shorts for nearly 3 years. There are 3 major padding area, a triangle shape double layer POC VPD 2.0 for the tail bone and a pair of triple layer for the sides. The fabric used is elastic, sweat wicking and breathable.

This is my very first pair of protection shorts and wearing them feels like I'm not wearing them at all! They are snug to fit and extremely low profile that you won't notice them under your pants. I even use them under my board shorts when I snowboard on the indoor slope at Urban Ski.

Although it does protect your tailbone, it doesn't protect your Ischium bone (the rounded bone under your butt. So if you do fall a lot on your butt, the only cushioning will be your outer wear.

Besides that if you are pretty proficient in your snowboarding, it's a good light weight and low profile protection shorts.

Protection: 4/5
Comfort: 5/5
Price: 3/5

Protective shorts that provide a high level of protection for your tailbone and hips. Hip VPD 2.0 Ski Shorts allow for great freedom of movement due to its slim profile and VPD adapts to the shape of your body, but when exposed to impact, the material stiffens and has extreme impact absorption properties.

  • Perforated 3-ply VPD 2.0 hip protection that outperforms the 1621-1 motorcycle standard.
  • Stretch and ventilated mesh construction.
  • Optional tailbone protection for Coccyx region.

Do check out the Demon FlexForce X D3O Padded Shorts V2 which I plan to get next as the protection area is even more.
